Wednesday 9th July 2014 at 7.30pm
Thursday 10th July 2014 at 7.30pm
Friday 11th July 2014 at 7.30pm
Saturday 12th July 2014 at 2.30pm
Saturday 12th July 2014 at 7.30pm
Our Director Ali Marshall and Artistic and Musical Director Justin Lavender introduce the production as follows:
Having this season assembled a particularly talented creative team and ensemble of gifted young soloists, Opera at Bearwood has the opportunity to present Gounod’s rarely-performed operatic masterpiece Romeo and Juliet. Closely based on Shakespeare’s iconic romantic tragedy, this opera fuses all the elements of grand opera guaranteed to stimulate the audience – extreme tension between feuding households; sudden violence and death; and the ultimate sacrifice of two young people so spontaneously, intensely and profoundly in love that their story strikes a chord with any of us who have ever been in love ourselves. Gounod’s score is crammed with sumptuous melodies and thrilling ensembles, France’s worthy musical partner to our greatest playwright!
With that enticing introduction I hope that you will be inspired to come and see the show! We are sure you will not be disappointed.
